Mural says 'Sayangi Malaysiaku'
Students of SK Sungai Danga were overjoyed when their ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku’ mural project was completed on 30 August 2018. 40 standard four and five students were involved in the project after it received the thumbs-up from Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) that has adopted the school. The original concept and creative direction, however, came from a local artist, Mulo, who was also present at the completion of the project.

“This mural rally students to come together and transform a space into an intriguing art piece. I believe in guiding students to see opportunities and possibilities so that one day they could be transformational leaders,” said Mulo, 31, who hails from Kempas, Johor Bahru.
Norzulaikha Roslan, 11, said the activity brought students closer and heightened their spirit of patriotism. Her opinion is seconded by a fellow standard five student, Mohd Harris Mohd Shafie who said, “I feel patriotic, and I love Malaysia; this is a lesson I learnt from this out-of-classroom activity.”

A history teacher at the school, Rohaiza Nawi believes that the project has successfully turned an otherwise dull site into an eye-opener. “Apart from portraying a beautiful artwork, the project has also turned ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku’ from a slogan into a lifestyle. The mural is a strong reminder for all of us to treat our students and colleagues with much love, care and respect. I hope Iskandar Investment will continue to assist SK Sungai Danga to produce iconic influencers.”
The mural portrays two students; a boy and a girl (representing the power of gender equity), looking forward to a bright future after scoring A’s in their examination.
Approximately 200 students received kindergarten and primary education at the school that is located within the Iskandar Malaysia economic region and IIB believes that positive mind development should start at young age, and schools are the ideal platforms to start the process.
