YAB Dato' Haji Osman Sapian was appointed as Johor's 16th Chief Minister on 12 May 2018 in a brief ceremony at Istana Bukit Serene, Johor Bahru. The new head of state was a former Johor state EXCO and had then served under a different political party (Barisan National) from 1999 to 2012, as Kempas assemblyman.
The 67-year old 'Menteri Besar' received his appointment from the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar just two days after Malaysia's 'Pakatan Harapan Rakyat' (PKR) was announced as the winning party in the wee hours of *10 May 2018. He holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Universiti Pertanian Malaysia.
*Malaysia's 14th General Election (PRU14) was held on 9 May 2018 with 82.32%, or 12,299,514 registered voters made their way to the polling stations.
