Craving for Nasi Kandar in JB?

My first stop when I set foot in Penang is always to find Nasi Kandar. It does not matter whether it’s the nearest to the airport, the ‘best’ in town (taste is subjective!), or the one with the most dishes.

So, where do I go for a good Nasi Kandar at home? It usually would be Shafina Restaurant in Taman Tasek, but this time, I want to introduce you to the new kid in town.

Nasi Lemak Royale Kedah opened in June this year, and it’s a great place to enjoy Nasi Kandar in JB. Its rice is yellow in colour (as typically done in the northern states), and it’s cooked with Ghee and several other herbs and spices. It complements the various Nasi Kandar ‘components’ very well - all sorts of meats, seafood, and offal cooked in multiple types of curries and colourful sauces.

The outlet’s best-sellers are deep-fried chicken and Kari Kambing. You also have to try their scrumptious squid and prawn dishes, delicious Daging Kicap, Telur Sotong, Omelette, Kobis Goreng, etc.

Don’t fret if you have company that does not enjoy Nasi Kandar so much, as this outlet has a fully-functional hot kitchen that can cater to the ‘Goreng-Goreng’ cravings: Nasi Goreng Kampung, Nasi Goreng Pattaya, Mee Bandung, Fried Kway Teow, Asam Pedas, Masak Lemak Daging, Soto, Lontong, and even Satay (note: the latter is available only in the evenings).

There is even a station for Nasi Campur (mixed rice) in case someone wants to enjoy Johor’s typical lunch favourites (and that heavenly cool, tall glass of Teh Ais).

In case you’re wondering whether you will be served Nasi Lemak to go with the lauk-lauk (as the name of the outlet suggests), you will not. It’s nothing like my experience having grilled seafood with Nasi Lemak in Serkam, Melaka.

The outlet is open from 7 am to midnight, so head on to Nasi Lemak Royale Kedah anytime you feel a craving for Nasi Kandar!
